Desert National Wildlife Refuge

We went to the Desert National Wildlife Range this past weekend.   They have quite a few little trails to explore.  Although we didn't see any wildlife besides the occasional lizard, there was a lot to do and learn.  We Stopped by on Saturday Afternoon after they had closed.  We weren't able to go into the Visitors Center so we went back Sunday Morning.  If you get a chance to come here, make sure you watch the video in the visitors center.  It was very informational and was put together very well.

Brian at the Cabin
Fun Fact:  The couple that originally bought this land, had planted a variety of fruit and nut trees.  They even had their very own Corn Creek Dry Gin.  This was during the prohibition era, so it was a very big thing and was apparently pretty good.
This Cabin was made using old rail road ties after the railroad was abandoned.
Desert NWR is home to approximately 320 bird species, 53 mammal species, 35 reptile species and four amphibian species have been identified on the refuge.  This is also home to over 500 plant species.
Every historical site has an informational sign about the history of the spot or about the wildlife that live here currently or lived here in the past.

This is underneath the sign at the Cabin.  I though it was a fun little artistic way to hold the sign up.
This was such a fun little day date and it was only a short drive out of town.  We will definitly be back in the future.

I'll be adding more photos in the next few days.  Brian is an amazing photographer and tooks so many!  I'll have to get a few from him to include. :)
